Background.

Headcanon based on SILENT HILL 3, BOOK OF LOST MEMORIES, and SILENT HILL 3 novelization

✝ Grew up in Hope House with Alessa and Claudia. However, he was not close to either one of them due to not having any supernatural abilities. So, he was raised separately with the other "normal" children of Order members.

✝ Had to have been late teens when Silent Hill 1 occurred and witnessed what happened between Harry Mason and Dahlia Gillespie. Claudia and Vincent seem to be the only members of the Order in the present who know the truth of what happened.

✝ Presumably his parents died at this time (but to be honest, there's little to no talk about who his parents could have been). It's assumed they were Order members and he was not orphaned until after the events of Silent Hill 1. Assumed because he had the monetary means to leave Silent Hill and enroll himself in college so most likely cashed in on their life insurance policies.

✝ Briefly left Silent Hill to live in New York. He enrolled and graduated college with a science/mathematics degree. Shortly afterward he got into stocks and worked on Wall Street until he accumulated enough funds to be able to retire in his twenties.

✝ Returned to Silent Hill (either being called by the town or Claudia). He donates all of his savings and liquidates all his funds to revitalize and rebuild the Order. His only stipulation is that he be named a priest, which is granted.

✝ Still extorts money from the Order members. What he doesn't use to continue the growth and expansion of the cult, he spends on himself. He begins to gather information to figure out a way to stop Claudia from forcing the rebirth of God into a vessel that knows only pain and hatred.

✝ This doesn't lead him anywhere since the one who has the Seal of Metatron is Leonard Wolf and he has been driven to madness by Claudia. Essentially he was forced into the same Hell people experience in Silent Hill 2. However, Leonard didn't believe he had done anything wrong so rather than accept his guilt; he went insane.

✝ Vincent bided his time until he met Heather. He realized that she didn't have any memories and that she could be manipulated to kill Claudia. From there, he sent on various fetch quests to acquire the items he believed she "needed."

✝ Unfortunately, he was mistaken. The Seal of Metatron wasn't a means to stop the birth of the god; it was a misunderstood item that had no power. He ends up being stabbed by Claudia twice and dies without knowing if Heather was able to stop anything.

Personality.

Vincent is a deeply unpleasant and complicated individual. He's a hypocrite in fine clothing.

He has a lot of faces he shows people, but every one of them has some truth. The best way to lie is to always have something true in what is said and done. What's most important to understand about him is that there's something about him that causes other people to recoil. There is a sliminess to his everything even if that may not be his intention. It seems like he has a hard time maintaining positive relations or even close relationships with other people. This is probably another reason why he feels more comfortable being a member of the Order (and really another sign of being cult indoctrinated).

Simply put: he is just some guy(tm). He doesn't have any supernatural capabilities or powers. And he's aware enough to know that he's no match for those that do. However, he doesn't like feeling weaker than someone else. While he can't physically menace anyone, he does refuse to lose any conversation that he has. It is what makes him exhausting to talk to, at times. He doesn't like feeling like he's on the backfoot of any interaction.

However, being cult-indoctrinated, he is faithful and religious, as well. But there's also a problem - he is brainwashed like the other Order members but since he was born a normal person; he wasn't the full attention of the adults in charge. He ("regrettably") acquired critical thinking skills to realize that they're insane, but not the means to understand that the entire cult and religion is insane. This is unfortunately because what the cult teaches is kind of true: the Order is protected and safe in Silent Hill; the Old Gods adhere to the covenant and veneration of the believers. So, objectively, Vincent is sane and recognizes insane and dangerous behavior easily.

Something about him that's surprising is that he can sympathize with almost anyone. He feels sorry for Leonard despite hating the man and witnessing his cruelty first-hand. Despite actively plotting Claudia's death, he pities her for how she turned out. He tries to talk about how she uses faith to cover up her insecurities and trauma of abuse, but that's not faith; it's rationalizing why she was abused. Vincent honestly seems to care for Heather, even though he fears what she's capable of; he hedges all his bets on her and believes in her capabilities over Claudia's. He seems sincere in how he feels, but it doesn't change his other negative qualities.

He's petty and vindictive; he viciously hunts for the thing that a person is sensitive to or attempting to protect about themselves. He'll use what he finds to hurt them emotionally then give a half-apology after. Essentially, he attempts to find the lines that people have. He looks for how much someone is willing to let him get away with, and makes those lines in the sand, then pushes forward. He constantly makes people make compromises on what they'll allow when they interact with him. Vincent is manipulative in leading others to do what he most wants them to do, even if he only is hoping that they'll carry out the intended action; he thinks as soon as he knows people's weaknesses he knows how they'll act. That said, he also overestimates the limits people have set and he is safer than he is.

The man is dedicated to his craft and that craft is whatever he needs to stay ahead of everyone else. He puts himself first above all else but doesn't fear death or suffering. While he says he doesn't want to get sweaty doing work, he has memorized the whole layout of Silent Hill and no longer needs a map. Vincent knows what he's good at and what he isn't; he analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of others. He views everything as a transactional balance but wants to always remain ahead (as mentioned many times).

There is a bitterness that he feels for being unable to stop what's happening. He may recognize the madness of the Order members, but he blames Claudia for weaponizing it. They would commit horrible acts of violence if she told them it was just and for God. She uses God's name to rationalize and validate any action; he doesn't even have the strength in the Order to denounce her claims. He extorts and swindles money from the Order members - he used what he could to build a church in honor of God before Claudia took it over and plunged it into the Otherworld. The money he extorts now seems to just be for a means to have control and spend on himself, since it is the only bit of control he has anymore.

He simply is and always will be a powerless person that is scrambling for any win that he can take, at this point.

Other Details.

Content Warning. Silent Hill 3 deals with a lot of heavy issues: child abuse, cult indoctrination, abortion, psychological and physical torture, and religious trauma. Unlike Heather, Vincent is a cult member and these topics could show up more often than in hers. He doesn't normally like to talk about his cult to normal people, 'cause he understands normal people will think it sounds insane. However, it may come up in bracketed text. So, just a warning. If you'd rather not interact with Vincent, please comment below - all comments are screened.

Clarification. Regarding romance, Vincent is a very vibes-based character when it comes to romantic entanglements. If things click with another character, great. He is, however, going to be a toxic boyfriend no matter the situation that he is in. It is not going to be an endearing ship, I don't believe; he's too himself to be anything else.
